Heat rises. We learned that in elemetary
school; however, it took a long time for someone to finally
invent a cost-effective way to get the heat from the ceiling back to the
floor where we live and work.
While searching for a solution to this timeless problem, Avedon Engineering
developed the AIRIUS
System and tested it for two years in its own 160,000
square foot factory in Colorado. The results
were beyond impressive -- heating
bills were reduced by over 35%!
In a building with a 30-foot
ceiling there is approximately a 15°F temperature difference between
the floor and the ceiling. With higher ceilings it is even more. That means
to generate the heat
necessary to maintain a comfortable 68°F temperature at the floor level,
where people work, the
ceiling will be a toasty 83°F or higher. Unless you have a good reason
to heat the ceiling, and we
can't think of one, that is a huge waste of energy and money.
Within 24 hours after installing
the AIRIUS System in
that same building, the temperatures floor to
ceiling will now be within 3°F. Best of all, the thermostats, previously
set at 80° F, located on the
ceiling mounted forced air furnaces have been
lowered by 12°F. According
to the U.S. Department
of Energy, every degree of lowered thermostat equals 3%
of energy savings. This reduction in
energy consumption can easily represent
a
savings of 35% or
more in energy costs during the
winter months. At today's energy prices that
is
big news.
The Science of the AIRIUS System
A low wattage energy-efficient
motor drives a near-silent fan that aerodynamically and quietly forces
a column of hotter air from the ceiling directly to the cooler floor below.
As this column of warm air
nears the floor, it draws in the surrounding colder air and begins to rise
again, creating a torus.
While doing so, it warms the cooler air it mixes with near the floor, increasing
the temperature of
the air and floor where people live and work.
Through a natural law of
physics, the AIRIUS System suspended near the ceiling will continue
mixing warmer air from the ceiling with cooler air near the floor until
the ceiling and floor air
temperatures are nearly equal. As this happens, it will require less and
less energy to comfortably
heat the floor area, allowing thermostats to be lowered and
energy savings
to be realized. Once begun, the entire process
of "thermal equalization"
will take, on average, less than 24
hours. The AIRIUS System is
designed to run 24/7, maintaining
a uniform and comfortable air temperature at
all times. Unlike
a ceiling fan, the air is
"drilled" downward in a focused column,
not simply swirled around.
AIRIUS System Models Available in six models depending on ceiling height. The AIRIUS
Free Hanging Model is our most popular and is designed
primarily for commercial,
industrial and retail spaces. Each unit
suspended just below the ceiling takes in hot ceiling air and
silently forces it to the floor in the form of an almost imperceptible
air column, warming the air and the floor below in the process.
